Colombia surprised me. The people are warm. The food is loud and tasty. Cities pulse with music and color. The coast is humid and sunny. The mountains are cool and green. Medellin feels like spring all year. Cartagena is full of old stone streets and sea air. The coffee region smells like heaven.
Most travellers enjoy the low cost of living here. You can rent a nice spot and still eat out a lot. Internet in big cities and tourist towns is fast and stable. Lots of cafes and coworking spaces too. I once worked from a cafe in Medellin while salsa music played nearby. It was hard to stay inside.
Things to do are endless. Hike, surf, dance, sip coffee, join a language exchange. There is a real nomad scene. Meetups, WhatsApp groups, new friends almost every week. For some, the noise and heat will be too much. But if you like energy and variety, Colombia is a great base.
