K9 Coliving, located in Östermalm, Stockholm, is a distinctive community-driven living space designed for those looking to thrive in a collaborative environment. Established in 2016, K9 spans 1200m² across four floors, offering a range of accommodations including single and double rooms, private bathrooms, sleeping pods, and adult bunks. This design aims to facilitate social interaction while providing residents with the necessary privacy for personal space. K9 hosts common areas such as five kitchens, co-working spaces, and areas for meditation and leisure, encouraging a culture of co-creation.
The Coliving experience at K9 emphasizes intentionality and commitment, with a majority of residents choosing to stay "long term," typically for at least one year. The governance structure is based on Holacracy principles, which ensures shared decision-making and promotes active participation in community life. Residents are encouraged to take on roles and contribute to community management, leading to a cooperative atmosphere where everyone has a voice and responsibility. This communal economy allows collective resources to be managed democratically, enhancing the social fabric of K9.
Inhabitants articulate a strong sense of belonging, citing the deep connections formed within the community. The shared living experience offers not only practical benefits but also emotional support as residents navigate life together, often during challenging times such as relocating or switching careers. Alumni of K9 maintain connections through an established network, promoting ongoing relationships and support beyond the tenure of residency. This continuity reflects the profound impact K9 has on its residents, fostering a lasting sense of community and shared experiences.
The founding of K9 is rooted in a broader vision of community living, inspired by earlier successes in similar ventures. The initial concept emerged from the experiences of its founder, Lisa Renander, who recognized the transformative potential of community living during her time in California. This historical context contributes to the ongoing evolution of K9 as it embraces a culture of learning, adaptation, and personal growth, making it a compelling option for those seeking not only housing but an enriching lifestyle.
