Suva feels like a city that breathes island life. Hot and humid most days. Rain comes fast and hard. The streets mix colonial buildings, loud markets and small bars with live music. I loved the Suva Municipal Market. I read about a traveller who learned a few Fijian words there and got invited to a village lunch. Things like that happen.
For digital nomads this is low to medium cost. Eat local food and you save. Imported stuff is pricier. Internet is good enough for calls and uploads. You will find cafes with steady Wi Fi and a few coworking spots. Power cuts happen sometimes so bring a backup plan.
There is a small but warm expat and local scene. Most travellers enjoy weekend trips to nearby islands, hikes in Colo i Suva forest and museum afternoons. For some this will be amazing. For others it might feel too slow. Either way you meet people easily here.
