Skopje surprised me. The city is loud, weird and alive. Old Bazaar lanes sit next to giant statues and concrete blocks. Most travellers enjoy the mix of Ottoman charm and post-socialist oddities. Summers get hot. Winters can be snowy. Spring and fall are perfect.
For digital nomads it works well. Rents and food feel cheap compared to Western Europe. Cafes are full of people on laptops. Internet is fast enough for calls and uploads. There are a few coworking spots and regular meetups. I once sat by the Vardar River, started chatting with a local dev and ended up at a weekend coding session. Small world.
Things to do are easy. Day trips to Matka Canyon, wandering the Old Bazaar, rooftop bars at sunset. Community is friendly and growing. For some, the city will be too rough around the edges. Arguably not the flashiest place. But if you want low cost, solid wifi, and a real local vibe, Skopje is worth a stay.
