Skopje surprised me. It is loud and calm at the same time. Ottoman streets meet huge modern sculptures. Summers are hot. Winters can be snowy. Most travellers enjoy the Old Bazaar for its cafes and spice shops. I found a tiny riverside cafe with solid Wi Fi where a local coder invited me to a weekend coding jam. It felt real.
For nomads it works well. Rent is cheap to reasonable. Cafes and small coworking spots have good internet and many sockets. There is a small but friendly expat crowd. You will find weekly meetups or someone to grab coffee with. Things to do are easy. Day trips to Matka Canyon, hiking, lakes near Ohrid. Museums, markets, and riverside walks keep you busy.
Arguably not the best if you need flashy coworking chains or beach vibes. For me it hit the sweet spot between low cost, fast internet, and a human city vibe.
