I fell for Grand Baie fast. It feels like an island town that buzzes without trying. Colorful Creole shops, seafood stalls, and a few lively bars line the shore. The sun is out most days and trade winds keep it nice. Rain shows up sometimes, usually in short bursts.
For digital nomads this place works well. Living here is cheaper than home for many Europeans, but not as cheap as parts of Southeast Asia. Internet is good in town. I found reliable cafe Wi Fi and a couple of small coworking spots. For some, that will be perfect. For others, you might want a backup SIM.
There is a lot to do. Snorkeling, sailing trips, a busy night market, and small hikes nearby. Most travellers enjoy the sunset at La Cuvette where locals play beach volleyball. I once joined a game and met a French coder who knew the best coffee shops. The nomad crowd is small and friendly. You can chill, work, and still feel like you are on holiday.
