I fell in love with Mauritius the minute I stepped off the plane. The island is calm but lively. People speak English and French. The food mixes Creole, Indian, and Chinese flavors. Music and sega dance pop up at small bars. The weather is warm most of the year. It gets rainy and stormy in summer.
For digital nomads it works well. Internet in towns is solid and cafes have decent Wi Fi. There are a few coworking spots in Grand Baie and Port Louis. The cost of living is mid range. Cheaper than Europe but not as cheap as Southeast Asia. For some, that balance is perfect.
Things to do are endless. I read about a sunset volleyball game at Flic en Flac. You can kite surf, snorkel, or hike Black River Gorges. The nomad community is small and friendly. Most travellers enjoy the slow island rhythm. Arguably not the best if you want big-city vibes, but great if you love sun and sea.
