I loved the Gili Islands. No cars. Bikes and laughter. Warm sun and salty air. The vibe is slow and beachy. Gili Trawangan is livelier. Gili Air feels mellow. Gili Meno is quiet and sleepy. Local food mixes Sasak and sea. Most travellers enjoy fresh fish and night markets. The weather is hot most of the year. Rainy season can get wild.
For digital nomads it works, but with caveats. Cost of living is low if you live simple. You can find cheap bungalows and good local meals. Internet is okay in cafes and many guesthouses. It can be patchy late at night. I once missed a call because the Wi Fi dropped mid-meeting. Bring a local SIM for backup. Things to do are great. Snorkel with turtles, dive, ride around the island, join sunset yoga, or play beach volleyball at dusk. Community is small and friendly. For some this will be amazing. For others, the slow pace and Wi Fi quirks might be hard.
