Details

ZAWP (Zorrotzaurre Art Work in Progress) is an innovative cultural initiative initiated by the Asociación Haceria Arteak in 2008, aimed at revitalizing the Ribera de Deusto and Zorrotzaurre neighborhoods of Bilbao during a long-term urban transformation process. This initiative embraces a creative approach to urban regeneration while addressing economic and social challenges in a historically industrial area. With a focus on culture, art, technology, and innovation, ZAWP seeks to create opportunities and enhance the historical value of the local community. One of the key developments within ZAWP is La Terminal FICC, a repurposed space that was formerly a factory for stamping and metalworking. This venue is designed to foster cultural and creative industries by serving as a communal hub for various artistic disciplines, attracting visitors every weekend. Events and exhibitions contribute to community engagement, with recent highlights including the presentation of artistic installations, concerts, and workshops aimed at both local residents and visitors. ZAWP stands as a testament to the association's commitment to fostering a creative ecosystem—termed the "Off Bilbao"—that contrasts and complements the broader urban transformation of the city. The founders envisioned this creative district as a space for alternative ideas and activities, providing essential opportunities for young talents while preserving the area’s cultural heritage. ZAWP not only addresses immediate social needs but also positions itself as a forward-thinking space for collaboration among artists, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs. In addition to cultural programming, ZAWP maintains an active role in communication and outreach, seeking professionals to enhance its visibility and effectiveness in community engagement. Through various projects, ZAWP continuously seeks to invigorate the local culture, demonstrating the power of community-driven development in urban planning.
