Details
Cord'O is a cohousing initiative designed to foster community and sustainability, particularly among socially engaged and vulnerable individuals. It aims to create a diverse living environment where residents of varying ages and social backgrounds can coexist harmoniously. Central to Cord'O's mission is the concept of solidarity, promoting interpersonal connections and a sense of belonging among residents. The community is built around a historical building known as "Villa Louise," which has been transformed into six modern living units made from sustainable materials, ensuring both comfort and respect for architectural heritage.
The living units come with essential amenities, including private bathrooms and kitchens, while communal spaces like a large kitchen, dining room, and a shared garden are designed to facilitate collaboration and social engagement. The outdoor area features an ecologically maintained garden, and a separate space called the Cord’O Cube has been established as a multifunctional area for both residents and community members. This space supports activities such as coworking and various community events, enhancing connectivity and involvement beyond individual units.
Cord'O's renovation was completed in November 2020 with the help of design firms committed to environmentally responsible practices. The initiative emphasizes ten guiding principles that highlight individual uniqueness, the importance of collective strength, environmental stewardship, and community integration. Overall, Cord'O represents a holistic approach to contemporary living that balances social responsibility with ecological sensitivity, making it a notable model within the cohousing movement.
