Co-operative Housing Ireland

Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) is a housing organization established in 1973 that focuses on supporting the delivery of homes through home-ownership, shared ownership, and social rented co-operatives in Ireland. Currently, CHI manages almost 5,200 homes across the country through democratically controlled local co-operatives. They work with developers and local authorities to deliver new homes and provide opportunities for individuals to join co-operatives to access housing. Recent developments by CHI include the launch of new housing estates such as Riverside in Castleisland, Kilruddery Glen in Bray, and Moínear in Ennis, each offering a mix of one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes. These developments were carried out in collaboration with various entities including local governments, construction companies, and housing agencies. Notably, Kilruddery Glen in Bray is highlighted as the largest delivery of social-rented estates in Wicklow in 2023 and the largest in the history of Co-operative Housing Ireland, marking their 50th anniversary. Members of CHI have access to a Members Area where they can find news, resources, and information relevant to their co-operative housing experience. Additionally, there are processes in place for members to report repairs needed in their homes, with the option to contact the local office or housing officer for assistance. For individuals interested in getting housed with CHI, they must first be on their Local Authority Housing List, and nominations for vacancies are sought from councils in the respective catchment areas. As an Approved Housing Body (AHB), Co-operative Housing Ireland collaborates with various stakeholders in the housing sector to offer high-quality social-rented and home ownership co-operative homes throughout Ireland.
