Camphill Holywood Organic Foods

Camphill Holywood is a community-based organization that provides opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and other needs through work and living environments in a social, therapeutic, town-based setting. The community aims to build a strong sense of togetherness and offers integrated workplaces where individuals can learn and develop new skills in areas such as retail, hospitality, and commerce. Through their workshops, Camphill Holywood promotes awareness of global and environmental issues, healthy lifestyles, responsible consumerism, and alternative diets. One of the unique aspects of Camphill Community Holywood is its life-sharing model, where community members live and work alongside each other to support mutual development and learning. This model fosters a shared social and cultural experience that promotes independence, interdependence, equality, and a sense of belonging within the community. Camphill Holywood offers a holistic approach to living, work, family-life, culture, and recreation, with a focus on individual and collective well-being. The organization traces its history back to 1997 when it was established as a home bakery, café, and shop in a building that was previously home to Bell's Bakery. Over the years, Camphill Holywood has evolved to provide living accommodations and support for residents with learning disabilities. Currently, the community offers integrated workspaces, residential care, and housing for residents supported by both employed and volunteer co-workers. They are governed by a Management Council comprised of volunteer Directors who oversee the strategic governance of the community and ensure resources are utilized effectively for the benefit of all members. Camphill Holywood is also registered with the RQIA for inspections to ensure quality care and support for adults with learning disabilities.
