I love Tarifa. It feels raw and free. White streets. Fishermen boats. Kites everywhere. The wind is the town mood. It keeps you cool in summer and drives the surf scene. Winters are mild. Summers are bright and windy.
Most travellers enjoy the laid back vibe. There is a small but real nomad crowd. I once answered emails at a cafe, then ran to the beach for a kite lesson. For some this will be amazing. Arguably not the best place if you hate wind or tiny towns.
Cost of living is easier than big Spanish cities. Rent can be modest outside high season. Internet in cafes is usually solid. Mobile data works well too. There are a few small coworking spots and friendly cafes.
Things to do are endless. Kite and windsurf. Beach volleyball. Hike nearby. Day trips to Morocco. The community is friendly and outdoorsy. You will meet people fast.
