Sofia feels like a small city with big surprises. I worked from a sunny café on Vitosha Boulevard, saw the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral from my laptop, then hiked Vitosha after lunch. Most travellers enjoy that mix of city and mountain. The vibe is relaxed, a bit raw, and full of old buildings and hip bars. Winters get snowy and cold. Summers are warm and dry. For digital nomads the price is nice. Things like food, transport, and rent are affordable compared to Western Europe. Internet is fast and steady in apartments, cafés, and coworking spaces. There are good coworking spots and a growing startup crowd. Meetups and language exchange nights mean you can find people to hang with. Things to do include coffee shops, craft beer bars, cheap museums, and quick trips to Rila Monastery. For some, the lack of beach will be a problem. For others, this city hits the sweet spot between low cost, good internet, and lots to explore.
