Rome surprised me. Old stones and scooters everywhere. The vibe is loud, messy and alive. Most travellers enjoy wandering to a tiny bar for a quick espresso and then getting lost in narrow streets. The weather is warm in summer and mild in winter.
For nomads the city has perks. Coworking spaces and cafes with Wi Fi are common. I once answered emails in Trastevere while a waiter kept topping up my espresso. Then I joined a group for aperitivo and swapped tips. Community meetups are easy to find.
Cost of living is not cheap by backpacker standards. For some, this will be amazing because you can live well if you choose local markets and small flats. Internet is usually fine but can be slow in old buildings. Things to do are endless. Museums, parks, food markets and even a quick trip to Ostia beach to play beach volley. Arguably not the best for total quiet, but perfect if you like history and good coffee.
