Rabat feels calm and real. Old stone walls sit next to quiet cafes. The sea is a short walk away. The weather is mild. Winters are soft and summers get hot but the ocean breeze helps.
Most travellers enjoy the slow pace. The medina has maze lanes and mint tea. I heard locals and expats meet for beach volleyball on weekends near the mouth of the river. For some, this will be amazing. Arguably not the best party city. It is better for work and calm evenings.
Cost of living is gentle compared to Western Europe. You can rent a small place, eat out, and still save. Internet is usually solid in cafes and the few coworking spots. There is a small but friendly nomad community. Museums, gardens, and walks along the river keep you busy. I liked sitting by the kasbah at sunset and watching fishing boats. It felt like a nice spot to work and slow down.
