Antananarivo feels alive and messy in the best way. Hills full of red roofs. Loud markets. Friendly people who sing in Malagasy. The weather is mild. Days are warm. Nights can be cool. Most travellers enjoy the food stalls selling sambos and zebu skewers.
For digital nomads, the draw is clear. Cheap meals and local transport make day to day easy. Wi Fi in cafés and a few coworking spaces is usually solid. At home it can be patchy. I once worked on a rooftop in Isoraka, met a French nomad, and learned a few Malagasy words over coffee. Little moments like that happen a lot.
Things to do are great. Day trips to lemur parks, craft markets, and nearby hikes keep you busy. The expat and nomad community is small but friendly. For some, the traffic and noise will be annoying. For others, this city has the right mix of culture, adventure, and low cost to stay a while.
