Jeffreys Bay is small and salty. The vibe is all surf culture. Waves are world class. Locals nod at dawn surfers and then drink coffee slow. The climate is mild. Summers are warm with cool sea breezes. Winters are comfy and great for big swells.
Most travellers enjoy the laid back streets and patchwork of surf shops and small cafes. Cost of living is easy on the wallet compared to big South African cities. You can find cheap guesthouses, simple eats and a few nicer spots. Internet is decent. Mobile 4G is reliable and a few cafes and small coworking spots have solid WiFi. For some, this will be amazing.
Things to do beyond surfing. Walk the long beach. Join a beach volleyball game at Main Beach. I read about locals starting games and I jumped in one afternoon. Day trips to Addo Elephants and little coastal towns are close. The community is friendly and small. It can feel sleepy. Arguably not the best if you need big-city buzz. But for slow work days and epic surf, it fits.
