Hungary surprised me. Budapest feels alive. Old stone streets meet loud ruin bars. People drink coffee and talk late into the night. Summers are warm. Winters can be cold and snowy. Most travellers enjoy the baths. I spent an afternoon soaking in a thermal pool and felt new again.
Cost of living is low compared to Western Europe. Food, trams and rent are affordable. Internet in cities is fast and steady. Cafes and coworking spaces have good Wi Fi. There are meetups almost every week. I once saw a meetup turn into a rooftop jam session.
Things to do are everywhere. Walk the Danube at sunset. Hunt for street food like langos. Take a weekend at Lake Balaton to play beach volleyball. For some this will be amazing. For others, the winters and city noise might be too much. Still, if you want culture, good coffee and a friendly nomad crowd, Hungary is worth a try.
