Guangzhou feels alive. The air is warm and humid. Summers are hot and wet. Winters are mild. Streets buzz with scooters, tea houses and laughter. Cantonese food is everywhere. Most travellers enjoy the morning dim sum scene. For some, this will be amazing.
Cost of living is lower than big Western cities. You can eat well and still save. Apartments vary from cheap shared rooms to shiny towers. Internet is fast on mobile and in coworking spaces. You might need a VPN for some sites. Arguably not the best if you want full online privacy.
There is lots to do. Night markets, river walks, parks and museums. I read online about a tiny noodle stall where locals play mahjong while they wait. Community feels real. Digital nomads meet in cafes and coworking hubs in Tianhe and Zhujiang New Town. You will meet other remote workers easily. It is lively, messy and surprisingly comfortable.
