Details

Silver Sage Village is a pioneering age-restricted senior cohousing community located in Boulder, Colorado, established in 2007. Comprising 28 residents organized into 18 households, the community is designed around a central courtyard with access to shared facilities, including a 5,000-square-foot Common House equipped with a dining area, exercise room, and various creative spaces. Silver Sage emphasizes the philosophy of "Aging in Community," where members support each other socially and physically without providing formal assisted living or nursing care. The community consists of 16 owner-occupied units, which include a mix of ten market-rate units and six that are designated as permanently affordable. In addition, there are currently two basement apartments available for rent. The demographic makeup of Silver Sage features a diverse group of seniors, aged 56 to 89, with various interests such as music, gardening, and art, contributing to a vibrant atmosphere. While many residents are retired, some maintain employment, fostering a dynamic community spirit. Located in Boulder’s evolving and artistic "NOBO" area, the community provides easy access to hiking trails, cultural venues, and essential services, enhancing residents' quality of life. The governance model is self-directed, with community members taking an active role in managing various aspects of their living environment through standing teams. Monthly meetings are held to make decisions collectively, ensuring that individual needs are balanced with the communal good. Silver Sage Village fosters an environment where mutual support is paramount, as neighbors often assist each other through challenges. However, the community recognizes that each resident is responsible for their own well-being. Core values, such as collaboration, respect, and environmental sustainability, underpin daily interactions and decision-making processes. Residents are encouraged to engage fully with each other, promoting a sense of belonging and joy in the community lifestyle. Visitors to Silver Sage can arrange tours and participate in communal potlucks to experience firsthand the collaborative spirit of the community. Potential residents are encouraged to join a buyer-interest list to stay informed about any available homes, given the rarity of vacancies. Silver Sage Village exemplifies a successful model of senior cohousing, reflecting innovative approaches to aging while prioritizing community connectivity and support.
