About Porto 15
In central Bologna, near the Manifattura delle Arti cultural district, this public cohousing project suits people who want an urban base with a strong social framework. The setting puts residents close to the Museum of Modern Art and the Cineteca, while the building itself focuses on shared living rather than private isolation. The atmosphere is collaborative, structured, and practical, with residents expected to take part in the life of the house.
The property includes five floors and 18 rental apartments, with space for up to 49 residents across the project. Housing is allocated at agreed rent through a public call and self-application process, initially for applicants under 35. Private apartments are paired with shared spaces, and residents were selected according to apartment type and household needs. The move-in phase began in 2017.
- Five common areas for meetings, celebrations, activities, and workshops
- 18 rental apartments in a redeveloped building owned by ASP Città di Bologna
- Publicly initiated cohousing with a participatory co-design process
- Residents jointly drafted the Community Charter and co-living rules
- Porto 15 APS, a social promotion association founded by the first residents
The project carries a clear civic stamp. It was promoted by the Municipality of Bologna and ASP Città di Bologna, with ACER handling the rehabilitation and SuMisura supporting the resident group. The result is a housing model built around shared responsibility, common rules, and a community that grows through direct involvement.
