Details

Torino Porta Nuova is one of the largest train stations in Italy, accommodating about 192,000 daily transits and 70 million visitors annually. The station, with a strategic location within the urban fabric, serves as a major hub for public transportation, intersecting with the new metropolitan subway line. Its history dates back to 1861 when construction began, showcasing a blend of functional rigor with representative and monumental features typical of buildings facing Piazza Carlo Felice. Over the years, significant renovations and expansions have taken place at Torino Porta Nuova, notably during the 1911 Universal Exposition when enhancements were made to accommodate a surge in visitors. The station underwent further modifications in 1940 to improve office and postal compartment arrangements, including the construction of a large building on Via Nizza. Subsequent interventions led to the creation of two galleries flanking the building wings and the development of modern infrastructure to enhance visitor experience and accessibility. The recent revitalization efforts at Torino Porta Nuova have focused on redesigning pedestrian routes, parking facilities, and public transport access points to streamline the overall circulation system. The renovation included the installation of features to improve accessibility for all, such as over 1 km of guides for the visually impaired and 18 tactile maps. Additionally, architectural restoration works have been carried out to preserve the station's original charm while integrating innovative elements to enhance its spatial quality. Modern amenities like climate control, lighting systems, information displays, security measures, and enhanced communication services have been incorporated to ensure a seamless and safe travel experience for passengers. In terms of security, Torino Porta Nuova employs a control room to oversee continuous surveillance, monitoring security systems, and responding to incidents promptly. Various safety measures such as video surveillance, access control systems, intrusion detection, and fire alarm systems have been implemented to safeguard the station and its visitors. The station also offers a range of services including travel agencies, ATMs, luggage storage, information desks, lounges, car rentals, lost and found services, parking facilities, and more to cater to the diverse needs of travelers and enhance their overall experience at the station.
