Cohousing Base Gaia

Base Gaia is a cooperative housing project located in Milan, Italy, consisting of ten founding families who have created a community emphasizing autonomy, sustainability, and solidarity. The project was initiated in June 2014 when the land was secured, leading to the eventual construction of a six-story building. Each family has their own living space within the building, while the ground floor and terrace feature over 200 square meters of shared spaces, including a common living area, coworking space, multipurpose room, guest accommodations, laundry facilities, and a space for collective purchases. The aim is to foster a sense of community not only within Base Gaia but also with the surrounding neighborhood through active citizenship, events, and initiatives that promote civic engagement, cultural enrichment, and relationships. Base Gaia operates on principles of cooperative living, shared resources, and participatory decision-making. The residents engage in activities that promote social interaction, sustainability, affordability, and a sense of belonging.
