Supportability is a charity based in Stockport, U.K., dedicated to supporting children, young people, and adults with complex physical and learning disabilities. Founded in 1953 by a group of parents advocating for better care options for their children with cerebral palsy, the organization has evolved significantly and now operates under the name "Supportability," adopted in 2019 to better represent its objectives and services. With a mission grounded in enabling independence, Supportability provides a wide range of services including residential care, day opportunities, and leisure activities tailored to individuals with complex health needs, autism, and behavioral issues. Their goal is to empower clients to engage fully in their community, enhancing their quality of life through tailored support plans that respond to each individual's unique needs. As part of its 70th-anniversary celebrations, Supportability has launched a heritage project, supported by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, to document its history and the experiences of people with disabilities over the past seven decades. This project includes a public exhibition, themed activities, and hopes to preserve the community's collective history through digitized archives accessible to the public in 2025. Supportability emphasizes inclusivity in its fundraising efforts and various community activities, such as its annual Golf Day event. The organization relies heavily on community donations and volunteer assistance, consistently encouraging the public to participate in events that foster engagement and support for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, it has aligned itself with the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter to promote high employment standards within the region, displaying its commitment to broader community welfare.
